Self-described “serial entrepreneur” Robi Sen, Chief Technology Officer with the company Department 13, offered attendees a glimpse into the future and implications of autonomous systems and artificial intelligence. Sen traces the history and the future prospects of these systems. Benefits could include fewer accidents, finely tailored personalized medicine, reduced natural resource use, opening of areas for exploration and more leisure time. An equal set of risks also exist. An autonomous power grid, for example, may provide hyper-efficient climate adjustment, but a glitch could result in cascading failure.
